Luis Longstaff, a year 9 student at Greenfield Community College recently won the annual U15 Tournoi International Neuville sur Saone playing for Newcastle United Football Club. The competition was played in the South East of France, just north of Lyon over the course of the recent half-term holidays. This fantastic feat was made more amazing by the fact Luis was playing a year up. The U15 side played four games during the group stages, where they beat FC Bourg 2-1, Olympique Marseille 1-0, CS Neuvillois 3-0 with Luis getting a goal and also drawing 1-1 to Evian Thonon. Having remained unbeaten throughout all their games they gained entry to the quarter-finals where they beat Guimaraes 1-0 and then beat Olympique Lyonnais the same score in the semi-final. In the final, they won 1-0 with Luis the match winner with a close range finish. A massive well done to Luis for the tournament win and good luck for next season as you enjoy your well-deserved off-season rest. Keep up the hard work!
