Greenfield Students Experience Careers in Engineering

posted 28 Apr 2014, 01:36 by anna.cole@greenfieldschool.net

A group of students from Greenfield Community College attended the Engineering Day at Shildon Locomotion National Railway Museum on 20th March.  The event was for Year 9 and 10 students who are interested in studying engineering, leading onto a Career in this area in the future.

Over 15 companies and organisations attended the event at Locomotion, representing a wide diversity of engineering; these include a full-scale model of Bloodhound, the car that is being built to take the world land-speed record to 1000mph. The Royal Navy attended with its turbine demonstrator and Nissan brought a Leaf electric car.  Students got involved in the various talks and activities including stripping a wheel bearing and making a miniature metal aeroplane.

The students, accompanied by Mr Henderson, a Maths teacher had a great time learning about the possibilities of engineering. We hope this has inspired them and look forward to seeing them representing engineering companies at events like this in the future!
