Greenfield Community College remembers the fallen

A commemorative ‘Garden of Remembrance’ has been designed and installed by students at the Sunnydale Campus of Greenfield Community College in remembrance of the brave fallen heroes of both world wars. As part of the school’s innovative Time4Success programme, students from all year groups researched life in the trenches, read a range of war poetry and looked at images of conflict from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. All students then took part in commemorative assemblies on Armistice Day, presenting their responses along with music, photographs and a minute’s silence to reflect on the sacrifices made by the armed forces. Jacob from Y7, said ‘I wanted to help because I admire the soldiers who fought for us. I wanted to be part of remembering what they did.’ The garden will be maintained by students, with a different theme each year related to remembrance.
