Specialist Status

We have been designated as a specialist college since 1998 when we were awarded Arts College status, this was later in 2007 augmented by our recognition as a National School of Creativity.  Currently the school is designated as a Specialist Arts & Science School.

This means we have developed particular areas of expertise that enrich and extend learning across all areas of the school.

 The key specialist areas are:

  • Action research projects.
  • Live commission and enquiries.
  • Partnerships with community and industry.
  • Developing a range of new stimulating and exciting opportunities.
  • Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Science
  • Community engagement
  • Creative and enterprising approaches to teaching and learning

We believe that our specialism contributes strongly to a continued year on year improvement in school results, as well as the rounded development of all our students as successful individuals. Our specialism promotes the STEAM subjects, namely Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

The specialism contributes to all school life through:

  • Action research projects.
  • Live commission and enquiries.
  • Partnerships with community and industry.
  • Developing a range of new stimulating and exciting opportunities
